ALHAMA DE MURCIA

Tampoco estaba en el diseño del viaje la visita a Alhama de Murcia. Sin embargo, al salir de Baza nos llamó Félix Rodríguez Lozano, que se encontraba por esa zona con su hijo Alberto, y quedamos en vernos en esa localidad para comer juntos.

Llegamos a Alhama en plena siesta y apenas había nadie por las calles, pero alguien nos indicó “Los Bartolos” para comer arroz y no nos defraudó. Degustamos unos excelentes arroces típicos de la localidad y a media tarde salimos para La Unión.

Esta localidad está casi en el centro de la región de Murcia y sus tierras son fértiles y entre sus cultivos predominan los parrales de uvas de mesa, huertos de cítricos y otros frutales. El resto de terrenos se cubren con grandes pinadas de las reservas forestales.

 La historia de Alhama de Murcia se vincula con los afloramientos de aguas termales. La presencia de los baños junto con los recursos naturales que ofrece el medio físico propiciaron la existencia de actividad humana aproximadamente desde el 3.000 a. C.

El término Alhama alude a las aguas curativas de sus manantiales. Al-hamma significa “baño termal”, recurso termal que será citado en varios escritos por cronistas árabes.

This town is almost in the center of the region of Murcia and its lands are fertile and among their crops predominate the parrales of table grapes, orchards of citrus and other fruit trees. The rest of lands are covered with large pinewood forest reserves.

The history of Alhama de Murcia is linked to the outcrops of hot springs. The presence of the baths with natural resource which provides the physical environment led to the existence of human activity approximately from 3,000 BC

The term Alhama refers to healing waters from its springs. El-hamma means "thermal bath", thermal resource that will be quoted in various writings by Arab chroniclers.
