Entramos y salimos de la ciudad de Córdoba siguiendo las indicaciones del GPS y de los letreros indicadores, más fiables para nosotros. Buscando siempre la dirección de Almodóvar del Río pasamos junto a Medina Azahara. Pronto empezamos a divisar la fortaleza de Almodóvar, topónimo de origen árabe que quiere decir “el redondo”.
La localidad de Almodóvar del Río está ubicada en la comarca de la vega del río Guadalquivir, se encuentra situada a una altitud de 121 metros y a 22 kilómetros de Córdoba capital. Cuenta con unos 7.000 habitantes, pertenece al partido judicial de Posadas y forma parte de la Mancomunidad de la Vega del Guadalquivir cordobés.
